"Hard wired" systems are better. You might be surprised as to how easy someone can receive your wireless video signal! Discovery channel showed a special on security where 2 men were driving around in a neighborhood and watching the video feeds inside of a SUV! Scary thought! So, think about that "nanny cam" before you go wireless. Much more secure to go with one that is connected by wiring.
Light up your walkways and sides of your home with solar powered lights. DO NOT GET THE CHEAP ONES (dim light and waste of money. OK for decoration)! They make some that provide bright lighting at about $40 each but well worth it!
Most door hinges and locks come with short 1 inch screws. Use long 3 inch screws in the hinges and lock / deadbolt plates that are mounted to the frame. Why? A lot harder to kick in.
Don't waste alot of money on locks. If you have a cheap door, it does no good to have the best locks available. Cheap doors can be kicked in very easily. Best doors - hollow metal frame.
Leaving a big dog bowl or huge dog bones at one of your doors will make a burglar think twice about entering! Signs warning about large dogs help also.
